The benefits of
Functional Testing
As in any diagnostic process, tests help us understand what is going on inside your body so we can target and tailor our recommendations for an optimal outcome.
Functional tests tell us more about how you body is (or is not) functioning, as opposed to medical tests which are intended to diagnose (or rule out) disease.
NHS test results are welcomed, and these will be viewed and interpreted with a functional medicine lens as we check for abnormalities that indicate suboptimal health. You may be referred to your GP for medical tests if any red flags are raised.
The direct-to-consumer functional testing market is big business with many tests being analysed at unknown labs lacking quality control certification. Test interpretation provided by these businesses can favour the sale of their own supplements.
Our tests are analysed by reputable labs with strict quality control certification, many of whom have an advisory board made up of postdoctorate reseachers.
Below is a selection of our most commonly used tests:
- Microbia Microbiome Explorer (previously MetaXplore) – advanced stool test combining mNGS, ELISA, and RT-PCR technologies.
- MicroGenDx WomensKey Complete – vaginal swab & urine test combining NGS & qPCR.
- Screen Me vaginal & urine microbiome tests.
- Genova Adrenal Stress Profile.
- Lifecode Gx – genetic profiles.
- Medichecks – Vitamin D, Advanced Thyroid.
- Mosaic Diagnostics Organic Acid Test & Mycotox.
- Precision Analytical DUTCH Complete.
Quality private tests can be expensive so will only be recommended if they are essential for your care plan. The options will be discussed and the benefits fully explained to you. Functional test interpretation will be provided.
